A photo taken on June 4, 2011 shows members of the Mars500 crew (from top L) Russia's Sukhrob Kamolov, Italy's Diego Urbina, Russia's Alexander Smoleevskiy, France's Romain Charles, Russia Alexey Sitev and China's Wang Yue posing for the official "1 Year Already" picture as they are locked into the Mars500 isolation facility in Moscow. The six volunteers were to emerge from isolation on November 4, 2011 after spending almost one-and-a-half-years locked away from the world at a Russian research centre to test the effects on humans of a flight to Mars. The unprecedented experiment has simulated the duration and isolation of a return journey to the Red Planet, even including "walks" on a replica of the Martian surface and 20-minute time gaps in communication with outside.
