Dr. William Kelso, Director of archeology for Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (APVA) stands on November 22, 2011 at the exact place where Pocahontas, the favored daughter of the Algonquian chief Powhatan, was standing during her wedding to tobacco entrepreneur John Rolfe, at the site of the recently discovered church of the first British settlement in America at Jamestown, Virginia. The 17th century wedding of Pocahontas and John Rolfe that temporarily brought peace between settlers and Native Americans, may have taken place in the oldest known Protestant church in the United States.
