PERU-US-BERENSON-PAROLE-FILE
This file picture shows US citizen Lori Berenson preparing to sign the document ratifying her parole on November 5, 2010 in the Santa Monica prison court, in Lima. Berenson served 15 years of a 20-year sentence for terrorism since 1995 after she was convicted as an accomplice to the armed group the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement in planning to attack and take over Congress in 1995 during the government of then-president Alberto Fujimori. Berenson was authorized by a Peruvian court on December 16, 2011 to travel to her native US to spend the holidays, as antiterrorist advocates critiqued the move stating there is no guarantee that she will return to Peru to complete the five-year sentence she must still complete on parole in Lima.
