BULGARIA-POLITICS-PRESIDENT
Bulgaria's new President Rosen Plevenliev (C) takes the oath of office at a special parliamentary session in Sofia on January 19, 2012, after his October 30 election for the largely ceremonial job. The 47-year-old, who entered politics from the construction industry just two years ago, was sworn in, kissed the bible and was blessed by the 97-year-old head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Maxim. The non-partisan Plevneliev was nominated by the ruling right-wing GERB party after winning public acclaim as an energetic construction minister in its minority government.
