EGYPT-BUILDING-COLLAPSE
Work on clearing the rubble continues at the scene a collapsed building in the Cairo suburb of Madinat Nasr early 27 January 2004. At least six people died and 33 were injured, many of them rescue workers or firefighters, when a 12-floor building caught fire and then collapsed in the Egyptian capital late 26 January, the official Egyptian news agency MENA reported. Many of the casualties were believed to be firefighters, police or rescue workers who were trying to put out the blaze when the building, in a central shopping street, fell down. MENA quoted police officials as saying that one body had been pulled from the rubble late last night, and five more early in the morning today. AFP PHOTO/DASSKI
