IRAQ-SABEANS-RELIGION
An Iraqi man, follower of the Sabean religion, a pre-Christian sect that follows the teachings of John the Baptist, washes his hands during a ceremony to mark Eid Al-Khalqeh (creation of the world) on the banks of the Tigris River in Baghdad, on March 17, 2012. Eid Al-Khalqeh is a five-day religious holiday celebrated by the Sabeans also known as Mandaeans, and is a monotheistic religion historically practised around the lower Euphrates and Tigris. They speak a distinct language, Mandean, and their religious books are written in Sabaen script.
