SENEGAL-FRANCE-GAMBIA-SINKING-INQUIRY
TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY MALICK ROKNY BA
Eli Jean-Bernard Diatta, a relative of victims of the Joola ferry disaster, stands in front of the Kantene cemetery, on March 18, 2012 in Ziguinchor. The Joola capsized in stormy seas off Gambia on the night of September 26, 2002, while sailing between the southern Senegalese territory of Casamance and the capital Dakar. Licensed to carry 550 people, it had 1,927 passengers on board, according to official figures, of whom only 64 survived. A French appeal court examines on March 19, 2012 a motion into the French inquiry over the sinking. The Joola disaster, in which 22 French nationals died, has strained ties between France and its former west African colony. AFP PHOTO/SEYLLOU
