SERBIA-MONTENEGRO-POLITICS-PARLIAMENT-SPEAKER
Serbian newly-elected speaker of the parliament Dragan Marsicanin (L) of former Yugoslav president Vojislav Kostunica-s (C) Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) is pictured 04 February 2004 at the parliament in Belgrade. Serbia-s leading reformist party joined forces with the Socialists led by war crimes indictee Slobodan Milosevic to push through the election of a parliament speaker, a first step towards ending the political gridlock in the Balkans country. Marsicanin was elected by a vote of 128 out of 245 deputies present, and also becomes Serbia-s acting president, after elections to the presidency were declared invalid due to insufficient voter turnout.
