BRAZIL-ENVIRONMENT-AMAZON-GREENPEACE
Handout picture released by global campaigning organization Greenpeace, showing Greenpeace activists hanging a banner reading "Amazon Crime" on the anchor chain of the ship Clipper Hope, near the port city of Sao Luis de Maranhao in northern Brazil, on May 14, 2012. The activists are preventing the departure of the ship from the Amazon to the US, where its cargo of pig iron will be used to make steel for the car industry. Greenpeace is taking action to expose a trio of serious crimes in the production of Brazilian pig iron including slave labour, deforestation and the invasion of indigenous lands. The organization is calling for Brazilian President Dilma to protect the Amazon and the people who depend on it, as well as veto changes to the country's 'forest code' and support Greenpeace's call for zero deforestation.
