Author, painter and Holocaust survivor Max Mannheimer (L) smiles as he is awarded the European Charlemagne Prize of the Sudetendeutsche Landsmannschaft (Sudeten German Homeland Association) by the associaton's spokesman Bernd Posselt (R) on May 26, 2012 in Nuremberg, southern Germany. The prize was awarded during the association's traditional convention, the Sudetendeutscher Tag, themed this year "Cultivate origin - save the future".
