AUSTRALIA-SYRIA-POLITICS-UNREST
This general view shows the entrance to the Syrian embassy in the Australian capital Canberra on May 30, 2012. Australia on May 29 expelled Syria's top diplomat, charge d'affaires Jawdat Ali, over the "hideous and brutal" massacre at Houla of more than 100 people, with Australia's Foreign Minister Bob Carr saying he expected other countries to follow suit. Meanwhile, Japan on May 30 told the Syrian ambassador in Tokyo to leave the country, the foreign ministry said, following Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United States, who all kicked out the highest ranking Syrian diplomats in their countries the day before in a bid to increase pressure on President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
