FRANCE-AFGHANISTAN-SOLDIERS-FUNERALS
France's President Francois Hollande (2ndL) with former French Presidents Nicolas Sarkozy (4thR) and Valery Giscard d'Estaing (3rdR) and members of the French government stand in front four flag-draped coffins during a national ceremony of remembrance for the four French soldiers killed on June 9, 2012 in a suicide attack in eastern Afghanistan, where around 4,000 French troops are serving. A total of 87 French soldiers have died in Afghanistan since the start of NATO-led operations against the Taliban in the country in 2001, including nine since the start of 2012.
