TO GO WITH AFP STORY: Indonesia-France-environment-animal-radio
This photograph taken on June 4, 2012 shows a rescued gibbon monkey confined at the rehabilitation center run by French environmentalist Aurélien Brulé popularly known by his adopted nickname Chanee, meaning Gibbon in Thai, in Barito Utarra district in Central Kalimantan province located in Indonesia's Borneo island. Chanee runs the succesful radio program Radio Kalaweit and aims to raise awareness of animal issues without beating listeners over the head about the plight of endangered species. Since he was 18 Chanee, who is now 32, has lived in Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of Borneo, where he has worked towards protecting endangered gibbons whose ranks have been decimated by rampant deforestation.
