Israeli ambassador to France Yossi Gal (R) congratulates Philippe Bieber after awarding him with the medal of the "Righteous Among the Nations" ("Justes parmi les nations" in French) on the behalf of his late grandparents Auguste and Jeanne Bieber honored posthumously for their efforts to save Jews from the Nazis in World War II, during a ceremony, on July 22, 2012 in Strasbourg, eastern France, as part of the commemorations of the seventieth anniversary of the Paris Vel D'Hiv roundup (Rafle du Velodrome d'Hiver). Simone Kogan-Reichner, an 82-year-old French Jewish woman who was hosted by Jeanne and Auguste Bieber in 1943 and survived anti-Semitic persecutions, took action to the Yad Vashem Commission in Jerusalem to honor posthumously the Bieber couple.
