GERMANY-HISTORY-CASTLE-PALACE-RECONSTRUCTION-FEATURE
Workers remove residues from the site where used to stay the former palace of republic (Palast der Republik) and the Royal Palace (Berliner Stadtschloss) in Berlin on August 2, 2012. The Palast der Republik, that housed the former East German parliament, was dismantled in 2008. The reconstruction of the Berliner Stadtschloss is planned at this historic site. The Royal Palace originally built in the late 17th century was badly damaged during the second World War and levelled by the then communist east German government in 1950 to give way to the Palast der Republik.
