A handout picture released by the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) on August 4, 2012 shows civil defence youths removing one of a dozen corpses, some burnt and others mutilated, that were thrown on a rubbish dump in the Damascus suburb of Yalda. A Syrian army brigadier general, who refused to give his name, told journalists: "These are civilians who were kidnapped and killed by the armed groups," in reference to the killings in Yalda, which the state news agency described as "horrible massacres."
