US-LAW-DEATH SENTENCE-DNA
TO GO WITH AFP STORY
Kirk Bloodsworth (52) shows pictures of the convicted murderer Kimberly Shay Ruffner during an AFP interview in his apartment in Mount Rainier, Maryland on September 26, 2012. Kirk Bloodsworth is the first American sentenced to death row who was exonerated by DNA fingerprinting, although his death sentence had already been commuted to two consecutive life sentences, by the time his exoneration based upon DNA evidence was in the works. Bloodsworth was convicted in 1985 of sexual assault, rape, and first-degree premeditated murder for the 1984 rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl and was released in 1993. AFP PHOTO/MLADEN ANTONOV
