FRANCE-PARTY-PS-CONGRESS-VOTE

Members of France‘s ruling Socialist Party (PS) were voting today for a new leader in a contest seen as an easy win for Harlem Desir, a European parliamentarian and former anti-racism campaigner. Around 170,000 PS members are eligible to participate in the vote, which takes place a week ahead of a party congress in Toulouse, where the new first secretary will be formally confirmed. Emmanuel Maurel, the little-known Paris councillor running against him, is seen as a rank outsider.
