SOMALIA-UNREST

This photograph released by the African Union-United Nations Information Support Team on November 17, 2012, shows a former pro-government militia member being helped by colleagues into a specialised de-mining suit by soldiers of the Djiboutian Contingent serving with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) near the central Somali town of Belet Weyne, in the Hiraan region of Somalia, approximately 300km north west of the capital Mogadishu. Djiboutian AMISOM troops conduct daily, early morning sweeps of areas of the town in the search for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by the Al-Qaeda-afflliated Al Shabaab extremist group during the night before. AMSIOM troops have this week begun increasing their forces in Belet Weyne since first deploying there in September after the town liberated from Al Shabaab in December 2011 by a combined force of the Ethiopian Army and Somali government forces.
