CROATIA-CHURCH-EDUCATION-EU-SEX-FILES
TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY LAJLA VESELICA
(FILES) - This file photo taken April 4, 2012 shows main Croatian archbishop Josip Bozanic before holy mass at capital Zagreb's main cathedral. Freshly introduced sexual education in Croatia's schools has split the EU-bound country as the powerful Roman Catholic Church has challenged the centre-left government with a crusade-like campaign against the curriculum. The two-year experimental program -- aimed at raising awareness on potential sexually-related problems -- is adjusted to pupils' age, from nine to 18 years, officials said. Church groups of citizens, claimed the sex-ed would actually promote "pornography, promiscuity and homosexuality."Peace in our homeland is at stake," Zagreb Archbishop Cardinal Josip Bozanic said, slamming the curriculum as "destructive and dangerous."
