Anti-genetically modified organism (GMO) activists, clash with gendarmes, on April 15, 2013 at the entrance of a plant of the US multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation Monsanto in Trebes, southwestern France, as they try to enter the site to verify there was no MON 810 genetically modified maize stored at the plant. On March 9, seven European countries -- Belgium, Britain, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Ireland and Slovakia -- blocked a proposal by the Danish EU presidency to allow the cultivation of genetically-modified plants on the continent.
