EGYPT-RELIGION-JUDAISM
TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY MOSTAFA ABOUL EZZ - An Egyptian shoeshiner works near a gate ornamented with a Star of David in a narrow street, known as the Jewish Street, on April 2, 2013 in the old part of Cairo. There was a time when a constellation of Jewish Egyptians shone in the country's arts and music scene, and when some streets in Cairo and Alexandria brimmed with their stores. But by the turn of the 21st century, Egypt's Jews have become a faded memory: their synagogues are empty and neighbourhoods they had inhabited offer scant testimony to the once thriving community.
