TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY VERONIQUE MARTINACHE
(FILES) Picture taken on June 28, 2011 shows an employee walking in a corridor 490m (1607 ft) deep at the Underground Laboratory at Bure, eastern France, operated by the French National Radioactive Waste Management Agency (Andra). The construction of a facility known as the Centre industriel de stockage géologique (Cigéo), is scheduled to start in 2017, after a public debate in 2013, licensing in 2015 and passing of an act in 2016 detailing the applicable reversibility conditions but deep geological reversible repository for French high-level (HL) and intermediate-level long-lived (IL-LL) waste raises fears and distrust among locals and and in the public local opinion.
