FRANCE-ENVIRONMENT-NUCLEAR-ENERGY-WASTE-FILES
TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY VERONIQUE MARTINACHE
(FILES) A picture taken on June 28, 2011 in Saudron shows containers for nuclear waste that will be used at the Underground Laboratory in Bure, eastern France, operated by the French National Radioactive Waste Management Agency (Andra). The construction of a facility known as the Centre industriel de stockage geologique (Cigéo), is scheduled to start in 2017, after a public debate in 2013, licensing in 2015 and passing of an act in 2016 detailing the applicable reversibility conditions but this deep geological reversible repository for French high-level (HL) and intermediate-level long-lived (IL-LL) waste raises fears and distrust among locals and and in the public local opinion.
