ISRAEL-WEATHER-RELIGION-LAG BAOMER
The ground smolders following brush fires caused by the combination of hot temperature, dry weather and the Jewish Lag Baom holiday, in which revelers traditionally celebrate with bonfires, in Kadima Toaran, in central Israel, on April 28, 2013. The origins of this celebration lie in the village of Meron in current-day Israel, burial site of the Talmudic sage Rabbi Simeon bar Yochai. Lag Baomer marks the anniversary of his death approximately 1,900 years ago, and every year on this day around half a million Jews from all over the world make a pilgrimage to Meron. The bonfire there is the climax of the celebration. AFP PHOTO / JACK GUEZ
