MEXICO-CHILD-HEART TRANSPLANT
Mexican child Sebastian Contreras de la Cruz (8), whose heart was transplanted from a five-year-old donor, Dr Carlos Lezama (2nd-R) of the cardio-thoracic service and the head of the division of cardio-thoracic surgery Dr. Guillermo Careaga (R) at the end of a press conference at the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Mexico City on May 9, 2013. Sebastian received a successful heart transplant in Mexico, a very uncommon practice due to its complexity and the low rate of donation of organs from minors, the public hospital that performed the operation reported.
