International Head of Christie's Jewellery Department, François Curiel, auctions off a pear-shaped perfect D color, Type IIA Flawless clarity diamond weighing 101.73 carats on May 15, 2013 in Geneva for a record 18.1million euros ($23.5 million) at a Christie's auction. The price, which does not include tax or commission, is the highest ever paid for a flawless colourless diamond, according to the auction house, which had hoped the gem would go for $30 million.
