SUDAN-DARFUR-UNREST-HEALTH

A handout picture released by the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) shows a woman suffering from malaria resting at El-Sereif hospital in North Darfur on May 13, 2013. The hospital, that has many deficiencies in its building structure, has only one doctor who attends to nearly 300 patients every day with serious health problems like hepatitis, malaria, chest infections, malnutrition and premature deliveries. The fighting over the gold mines between Abbala (camel shepherds) and Beni Hussein (cattle shepherds) tribes since January has resulted in the mass displacement of more than 100,000 people, who have mostly fled to El-Sereif, leading to a serious humanitarian crisis.
