AFGHANISTAN-POLITICS-REFUGEES
An Afghan woman weaves a carpet at a refugee camp in the outskirts of Mazar-e-Sharif on April 7, 2013. Some 120 families have relocated at the Qale Qul Mohammad camp a little less than a year ago after returning from Pakistan where they had gone seeking refuge from violence in the region. Most of the men are fomally unemployed but scrape a living by doing odd jobs. The women weave carpets and take care of the children at the camp which account for over half of the camp's population. The residents of this camp have received help from NGO whom they get food from and the children get to attend school which was built by German ISAF troops. According to the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR, more than 5.7 million refugees have voluntarily repatriated to Afghanistan in the last 10 years and say that the lack of security continues to be the main cause of displacement. UNHCR estimates that as of mid-2012, some 425,000 Afghans were internally displaced. AFP PHOTO/FARSHAD USYAN
