Guatemalan ex-president Alfonso Portillo, jailed in New York after being extradited from his home country, will face his first US court hearing on Tuesday, officials said May 26, 2013. The 61-year-old, who faces charges he laundered $70 million of swindled government funds through US banks, was the first former Latin American leader ever to be extradited to the United States. After arriving in the US on Friday, he was taken first to a hospital for a medical check, but was quickly discharged and transferred to a jail in southern Manhattan, the consulate said.
