US-PHILIPPINES-ANIMAL-DOG

This photo obtained June 5, 2013, courtesy of the University California, Davis campus shows veterinary medical student Heather Kennedy as she gets a greeting from Kabang the dog during her intake exam at the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at UC Davis, on October 11, 2012. Kabang lost her snout and upper jaw when she leapt in front of a motorcycle to save two little girls in the Philippines. The mongrel dog is set for a hero's return to the Philippines after surgery in the Unites States to reconstruct her face. Kabang was released from the University of California's Davis veterinary hospital on June 3, 2013 after eight months of treatment in which her face was partly rebuilt, while also being cured of cancer and potentially fatal heartworms.
