SPAIN- ZOO-GORILLA-ALBINO
(FILES) A picture taken on September 14, 2003 shows 40-year-old "Copito de Nieve", "Floquet de Neu" in Catalan (Snowflake), the only-known albino gorilla in the world at the Barcelona zoo. Researchers at Barcelona's Institute of Evolutionary Biology have announced on June 4, 2013 after carrying out genome sequencing on the remains of the gorilla that his albinism was caused by a mutation of the SLC45A2 gene which was transmitted to him by both parents.
