TOPSHOTS
This image is part of of a photo package on children going to school around the world and it shows six-year-old monk apprentice Tandi Dorji (L) as he sits in a group with other young monks repeating holy scriptures in front of their teacher at a monastery in Thimpu, the capital of the Kingdom of Bhutan on June 4, 2013. Dorji is the youngest monk at the Buddhist monastery that overlooks the city and where over 200 monks learn among other things, about meditation, chants, holy scripture and about performing rituals honouring various bodhisattvas which are those being who have generated a spontaneous wish to attain Buddahahood for the benefit of all sentient beings. It is compulsory that all the students at the monastery to learn the holy scriptures by heart and spend a large part of their study time repeating it outloud to commit it to memory.
