SENEGAL-CHAD-HABRE-WARCRIMES
Senegalese policemen stand guard in front of the Special Tribunal set up for Chad's former dictator on July 2, 2013 in Dakar. Chad's former dictator Hissene Habre spent yesterday in custody awaiting a court appearance after his arrest in Senegal by investigators who said they had "serious evidence" to put him on trial for crimes against humanity. Habre -- once dubbed "Africa's Pinochet" -- also faces accusations of war crimes and torture during his eight years in power in Chad, where rights groups say that some 40,000 people were killed under his rule.
