The centre-right El Mundo newspaper published today images of what it alleged was a series of text messages between Rajoy and Luis Barcenas, a former treasurer of the People's Party (PP) currently in pre-trial detention as part of a separate corruption inquiry. The corruption scandal implicating Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy reignited on July 9 with the publication of an original handwritten account ledger purportedly showing illegal payments to him while he was a minister.
