PHILIPPINES-POLITICS-GUNS-CRIME
Workers at Arms Corporation of the Philippines (Armscor), one of the world's leading manufacturers of pistols, rifles and ammunitions, packs ammos at the company's plant in Marikina City, east of Manila on July 17, 2013. Although the M1911 design is over a century old, it is still the biggest seller in the Armscor product line. This type of pistol, known for its knockdown power, continues to be used by such elite forces as the US Marines Expeditionary Unit. Ironically, the M1911 was developed after US soldiers found their .38 caliber revolvers were inadequate in stopping fierce Muslim warriors in southern Philippines. AFP PHOTO/TED ALJIBE
