US-OIL-BOOM-SHIFTS-THE-LANDSCAPE-OF-RURAL-NORTH-DAKOTA
WILLISTON, ND - JULY 23: Darby Hanson (L), with his son Jacob Hanson, aged 8, during an organized softball game on July 23, 2013 in Watford City, North Dakota. North Dakota is been experiencing an oil boom in recent years, due in part to new drilling techniques including hydrolic fracturing and horizontal drilling. In April 2013, The United States Geological Survey released a new study estimating the Bakken formation and surrounding oil fields could yield up to 7.4 billion barrels of oil, doubling their estimate of 2008, which was stated at 3.65 billion barrels of oil. Hanson works as in masonry and has lived in Watford City for six years; he says he has seen both good and bad changes. "Personally, for me it's been good, but it's tough to see things not always done correctly," Hanson said. Andrew Burton/Getty Images/AFP== FOR NEWSPAPERS, INTERNET, TELCOS & TELEVISION USE ONLY ==
