FRANCE-EU-US-ENVIRONMENT-MONSANTO-FILES
(FILES) - A file photo taken on August 22, 2012 in Godewaersvelde, northern France, shows a corn field. US agro-chemicals giant Monsanto said on July 18, 2013 it would drop all requests to be allowed to grow new genetically modified (GM) foods in the European Union, which has for years held up approval. France's top administrative court threw out on August 1, 2013 a government ban on US agro-chemicals giant Monsanto from growing a type of genetically modified corn. A moratorium on MON810 corn -- one of just two types of genetically altered food crops whose cultivation is approved by the EU -- has been in place in France since March 2012.
