ROMANIA-NETHERLANDS-ART-CRIME-TRIAL-PAINTING-MUSEUM
To go with AFP story by Isabelle Wesselingh
Members of Lipovan comunity attend a religious service in the church of the Carcaliu village, eastern Romania, on August 7, 2013 where the mother of a Romanian suspect accused of stealing seven masterpieces from Rotterdam's Kunsthal museum presumably destroyed the paintings. Vasile Ivli appealed to his parishioners: "If you know something about these works of art bring them to the church, or call a number to provide information". Six Romanians will stand trial in August for what has been called the "theft of the century". The stolen works include Picasso's "Tete d'Arlequin", Monet's "Waterloo Bridge" and Lucian Freud's "Woman with Eyes Closed". AFP PHOTO DANIEL MIHAILESCU
