SPAIN-ENVIRONMENT-GREENPEACE-TOURISM-FILES
(FILES) A file picture taken on July 29, 2007 shows holiday homes being built in Altea on Spain's Costa del Sol. Greenpeace accused Spain on August 8, 2013 of overdeveloping its coastline and warned the problem will only get worse due to a new law which it said makes it easier for new projects close to the shore to get approval. The amount of land within 500 metres of Spain's sunny Mediterranean coast which is built up jumped by 24 percent between 1987 and 2005 to 32,868 hectares as former fishing villages were swallowed up by tourist developments, Greenpeace said in a report presented. The report predicted that Spain's Mediterranean coastline could be "completely built up" in 124 years if current trends continue. AFP PHOTO / JOSE JORDAN
