Spain's Popular Party (PP) deputy leader Maria Dolores de Cospedal arrives to the courthouse in Madrid on August 14, 2013 for a hearing in a slush fund scandal probe and a separate corruption case, both implicating former PP treasurer Luis Barcenas. In a previous hearing an according to sources present Barcenas told the judge that he had handed 25,000 euros (33,000 USD) in cash to Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy in 2010 and the same amount to the party's deputy leader Maria Dolores de Cospedal. The corruption affair originated in 2009 as a judicial investigation into alleged kickbacks and exploded in January this year when leading daily El Pais published copies of ledgers showing irregular payments to top party members.
