NZEALAND-CHINA-HEALTH-DAIRY-BOTULISM-FONTERRA
A photo taken on August 12, 2013, shows Fonterra's Hautapu dairy factory located near the rural town of Cambridge, some 150kms south of New Zealand's largest city, Auckland. New Zealand said on August 29, 2013, it was investigating how a false test reading triggered a botulism scare for diary giant Fonterra that led to global product recalls and dented the country's "clean, green" image. Officials sounded the alarm earlier this month, after tests showed batches of whey power produced at Fonterra's Hautapu factory were contaminated with the potentially fatal bacteria clostridium botulinum. Infant formula was pulled off shelves from China to Saudi Arabia as New Zealand's reputation for producing gold standard foodstuffs, which commands top prices in Asia, took a battering.
