JAPAN-NUCLEAR-ACCIDENT-ENVIRONMENT-SURFING
Japan-disaster-nuclear-environment-surf,FEATURE by Patrice Novotny
A sea gull flies over local surfers on Toyoma Beach, some 50 kilometres south of the broken Fukushima nuclear power plant, in Iwaki, Fukushima prefecture, on August 24, 2013. Around 300 tonnes of toxic water had seeped out of the vast tanks storing highly radioactive water at the plant -- one of around 1,000 on the site -- by the time anyone noticed, and some of it may have made its way through drainage ditches and into the Pacific Ocean.
