This image obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) shows Tropival Storm Karen (Lower R) crossing the Yucatan Strait on October 3, 2013. Karen has formed in the southern Gulf of Mexico and is moving toward the US coast, forecasters said Thursday. A hurricane watch is in effect from Grand Isle, Louisiana, eastward to Indian Pass, Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center. The city of New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain are among areas under a tropical storm watch. The storm, situated in the southeastern part of the Gulf, is packing winds of up to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) as it moves to the north-northwest. AFP PHOTO/NOAA
