Director of Global Malaria Programme Robert Newman adresses the media during the 6th MIM Pan-African Malaria Conference held at the International Convention Centre in Durban on October 9, 2013. The theme of the conference, which runs til October 11, is "Moving Towards Malaria Elimination: Investing in Research And Control." South Africa has cut mortality rates by 85 percent over the last 12 years, and hopes to soon eliminate the disease, a report stated on October 9 amid controversy over the use of highly controversial DDT.
