MALI-NIGER-SAHEL-HOSTAGES-FRANCE-QUAEDA-FILES

(FILES) -- A combo made on September 8, 2012 shows four TV grabs made out of a video uploaded the same day to the Mauritanian news website Sahara Medias and showing four of the six French hostages held by Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) (LtoR) Pierre Legrand, Marc Feret, Daniel Larribe and Thierry Dole. The information given on October 24, 2013 to AFP by a regional security source from Gao about emissaries being in Sahel to "accelerate negotiations" in order to obtain the release of the French hostages was denied later on the same day by a French governmental source. The four hostages were among seven people kidnapped from the uranium mining town of Arlit in northern Niger in September 2010 by Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) while working for Satom, a subsidiary of the French nuclear group Areva.
