GERMANY-HISTORY-JEWS-HOLOCAUST-ANNIVERSARY
German journalist and historian Armin Fuhrer addresses journalists on his book "Herschel" during a talk at the foreign correspondents' club (VAP) in Berlin November 6, 2013. The book, on the assassination of German diplomat Ernst vom Rath by young Jewish refugee Herschel Grynszpan on November 7, 1938 in Paris, and the consequent antisemitic pogrom of November 9–10, 1938 all over Germany, alleges that vom Rath could likely have survived the shots to his shoulder and stomach if doctors summoned by Hitler hadn't been instructed to let the man die. Germany commemorates the 75th anniversay of the so-called Kristallnacht (Crystal Night, Night of Broken Glass) on November 9, 2013. AFP PHOTO / JOHN MACDOUGALL
