An Indian Hindu devotee dressed as Goddess Kali Mata participates in a procession in Amritsar on November 12, 2013, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Namdev. Namdev was a poet-saint who is significant to the Varkari sect of Hinduism. He is also venerated in Sikhism. He is traditionally believed to have been born in 1270 AD in the village of Narsi Bahmani, in Hingoli district of Maharashtra, India.Most of the spiritual messages of Namdev emphasized the importance of living the life of a householder and that through marriage and having a family, one could attain Moksha - the liberation from samsara, the cycle of death and rebirth.
