GERMANY-NAZI-ART-HISTORY-FILES
(FILES) A combo made on November 12, 2013 of handout photos made available by German prosecutors of Augsburg on the German Federal official website www.lostart.de shows the 25 paintings identified as (from top, LtoR) "Allegory/Allegorical Scene" by Marc Chagall, "Moorish Conversation on a Terrace" by Eugene Delacroix, "Playing Piano" by Carl Spitzweg, "Woman in the Theater Box" by Otto Dix, "Man and Woman in the Window" by Wilhelm Lachnit, "Don Quixote and Sancho Panza" by Honore Daumier, "Riders on the Beach" by Max Liebermann, "Study of a Woman Nude, Standing, Arms Raised, Hands Crossed Above Head" by Auguste Rodin, "Child at Table" by Otto Griebel, "Sa Giustina in Prà della Vale" by Antonio Canaletto, "Male Portrait" by Ludwig Godenschweg, "Couple" by Hans Christoph, "Mother and Child" by Erich Fraass, "Couple in a Landscape" by Conrad Felixmüller, "View of the Seine Valley" by Theodore Rousseau, "Monk" by Christoph Voll, "Tram" by Bernhard Kretschmar, "Thinking Woman" by Fritz Maskos, "The Master Exploder Hantsch" by Christoph Voll, "Female Nude" by Ludwig Godenschweg, "Seated Woman/Woman Sitting in Armchair" by Henri Matisse, "Veiled Woman" by Otto Griebel, "Girl at Table" by Wilhelm Lachnit, "Dompteuse" by Otto Dix, and "Male Nude" by Bonaventura Genelli, that all belong to the 1,400 treasured art works "for which there is strong suspicion that they were seized as part of Nazi persecution" and that were seized in February 2012 in a Munich apartment. Public prosecutors in the southern city of Augsburg had been in charge of the investigation against Cornelius Gurlitt, the elderly son of Hildebrand Gurlitt, a powerful Nazi-era art dealer and collector who acquired the paintings in the 1930s and 1940s. The photos of 590 art works will be published next week online on Lostart.de website said German Culture Ministry on November 15, 2013.
