CAMEROON-FRANCE-CENTRAFRICA-DEFENSE
A military helicopter sits on December 2, 2013 on the deck of the French Navy amphibious assault ship BPC Dixmude moored in the Cameroonian port of Douala. The ship arrived on November 28 with 350 men as France is poised to intervene in the Central African Republic (CAR). More than 200 French troops begin on December 2 the hard task of boosting efforts to halt spiralling violence in the troubled Central African Republic as rebels withdrew from the capital Bangui. The rebels' retreat came ahead of what is expected to be a key week for the landlocked country as its crisis tops the international diplomatic agenda. The latest reinforcements, which arrived in the CAR on December 1, took the number of French troops in Bangui to more than 600 men. AFP PHOTO / PATRICK FORT
